The St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club is pleased to announce that St. Michael- Albertville High School juniors Kyle Swenson and Samantha Duerr were recognized as the Rotary Students of the month for March.
Kyle Swenson, who is the son of Jamie and Greg Swenson, is involved in cross country, swimming, track & field, and concert choir. His accomplishments include lettering in swimming three times, letter in cross country twice, as well as receiving an academic letter. He was part of the drug-free banner and captain of the cross team this season. He was also recently awarded the ExCEL award for his leadership and service to his community. Kyle would like to attend a university to study engineering or kinesiology.
Samantha Duerr, daughter of Sarah and Troy Duerr, is very active in her school community. She participates in track & field, weightlifting, BPA, NHS, Core Team, and concert choir. She received all-conference honors twice in track & field, lettered in track & field and academics, and was recognized with the Health & Physical Education Award. Sam plans to attend medical school to become a dermatologist.
 
“Rotary is very proud to recognize Kyle and Samantha as students of the month,” said Tracy Larson, STMA Rotary Club President. “They have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and represent the service above self ideals of Rotary. We wish them a successful future.”
 
The STMA Rotary Club honors students of the month during each month of the school year. The awards are given during the students’ junior year so they may include them on college applications and scholarship forms. Rotary Students of the Month are selected by STMA’s homeroom teachers. Rotary Students of the Month must demonstrate an interest in their community, have personal accomplishments or achievements, show respect to themselves and others, show a passion for “Service above Self,” must be drug/alcohol free, and cannot have committed a crime.
